2012 Mitsubishi Outlander GT

2012 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER: THE CHIC, GO-ANYWHERE, DO-ANYTHING, FAMILY-FRIENDLY CROSSOVER

A bona fide sales success from day one for the Japanese auto manufacturer, the Mitsubishi Outlander has become the preeminent mid-size crossover utility vehicle (CUV) available in America today, thanks to its versatile packaging and seating for up to 7 passengers, alluring one-of-a-kind exterior styling and the availability of one of the most technologically-advanced all-wheel drive systems with Mitsubishi’s prevailing Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system.

A handsome and highly-efficient crossover that’s loaded with standard features available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive that is a perfect match for every young family’s wallet and lifestyle. That’s precisely why the 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander truly exemplifies the auto manufacturer’s “different for a reason” philosophy.

New For 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander:

ECO” Indicator Light

Located in the instrument cluster, the “ECO” indicator light illuminates at a given vehicle speed and rev range to let the driver know that they are presently maximizing their vehicle’s fuel efficiency – the longer the duration that they drive with the “ECO” light activated, the better their fuel economy.

Rearview Camera System

In 2012 Outlander models equipped with the Touring package (GT model) and the Premium package (SE model), a helpful new rearview camera system with display screen integrated into the rearview mirror is included that provides an additional level of safety as it projects a clear view of objects or obstructions positioned directly behind the vehicle.

Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) Rating for all 50 States

Like the new “ECO” indicator light, another environmentally-friendly feature of the 2012 Outlander is its certification as a low emission vehicle (LEV) in all 50 states.

Redesigned Wheel Cover

The entry-level Outlander ES trim grade makes a fashion statement with a completely revamped stylish new wheel cover design for the 2012 model year.

Value-Added Standard Features Aplenty

The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander boasts a long list of no-cost standard features and convenient amenities that help to make this crossover utility vehicle live up to the term “a lot of car for the money.” These include air-conditioning with micron air filtration; helpful flat-folding 1st and 2nd row seating; and exquisite-sounding 6 speaker 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with Digital Signal Processor (DSP), equalization control and speed compensated volume; remote keyless entry with panic alarm feature; cool-looking rear combination LED tail lamps with clear lenses; cruise control with steering wheel-mounted switchgear; a 60:40 rear split-fold 2nd row seat; auto off headlights; intermittent rear window wiper/washer and electric room window defroster with timer; and numerous easily accessed 12-volt accessory outlets.

This outstanding Mitsubishi crossover has an impressive number of included safety features and technologies that allow it to achieve a high level of tractability, handling and stability. Among these high-tech features are Active Stability Control (ASC) and Traction Control Logic (TCL); anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) along with an advanced supplemental restraint system (SRS) consisting of advanced dual-stage front air bags with seat position sensors; side-impact curtain air bags for 1st and 2nd row occupants; front seat thorax side air bags; active front seat head rests and head impact absorption roof and pillar trim. Also included is Mitsubishi’s Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) technology, a patented body construction system that provides an additional layer of protection to the vehicle’s occupants by helping to absorb and dissipate energy in the event of a collision.

Providing an additional level of protection as well as helping to improve fuel efficiency, all Outlander models have a sturdy all-aluminum roof structure that helps to improve the vehicle’s center of gravity and helps to reduce the vehicle’s overall weight. This design feature also helps to improve stability and handling capability.

The well-engineered Outlander platform serves as the basis for the hot-selling Outlander Sport compact crossover and is fortified with a finely-tuned independent suspension (MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link suspension and back), large disk brakes (11.6-inch ventilated discs at the front with larger 11.9-inch solid discs rearward) and large-diameter front and rear stabilizer bars (22 mm front, 20 mm back).

Dynamic Duo: A Pair of Powerful and Efficient Engines

The 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander can be equipped with either a capable inline-4-cylinder or more powerful V-6 engine.

The 4-cylinder unit (available in the ES and SE Outlander models) packs quite a punch from its DOHC 16-valve 2.4-liter normally-aspirated engine that includes an aluminum block and head and Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-timing that helps to reduce harmful exhaust emissions and fuel consumption while boosting power output. Running on regular unleaded-grade fuel, the stalwart engine produces a full 167 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a beneficial 167 lb.-ft. of torque at the 4,100 rpm mark. The bore and stroke of this power plant measure 88.0 x 97.0 mm, respectively, while its compression ratio is 10.5:1.

Helping to improve fuel economy, this engine is paired with a high-tech Sportronic® continuously-variable transmission (CVT) that includes sporty steering wheel-mounted magnesium-alloy paddle shifters on the 2012 Outlander SE that allow the driver to manually select gears when so desired.

This adept engine/transmission combination give the Outlander ES and SE editions a tow rating of 1,500 lbs. – enough gusto to easily transport a tent trailer, a pair of personal watercraft or ATVs.

Providing power to the top of the line Outlander GT is an exceptionally smooth-running SOHC 3.0-liter V-6 engine that delivers a stout 230 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and a welcome 215 lb.-ft. of torque at only 3,750 rpm, giving the outlander GT and maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. like the four-cylinder unit, this engine features a high 10.5:1 compression ratio, MIVEC variable valve-timing technology as well as possessing its cylinder heads and engine block composed entirely of strong and lightweight aluminum-alloy. Bore and stroke for this engine measure 87.6 x 82.9 mm, respectively.

A neat technical feature of this V-6 engine is Mitsubishi’s clever Idle-Neutral Logic that automatically switches the car into neutral whenever the car comes to a stop to lessen fuel consumption. A responsive 6-speed Sportronic® automatic transmission works in concert with the engine to deliver robust power at the driven wheels; this transmission allows the driver to make gear shifts via magnesium-alloy paddles located behind the steering wheel.

Upscale 2012 Outlander GT

The deluxe Outlander GT includes numerous refinements for an even more posh crossover ownership experience. These include FAST-key passive entry and engine starting system with panic alarm feature; automatic climate control with micron air filtration; handsome 18-inch alloy wheels; and front mesh grille with chrome surround; chrome-trimmed HVAC controls; fog lights with chrome surround; dual exhaust; and an available 710-watt Rockford-Fosgate® premium sound system with 6 CD/MP3 in-dash changer, 9 speakers including a 10-inch dual-voice coil subwoofer with Punch® control , Digital Signal Processor (DSP), 3-band equalization and speed compensated volume and a 3-month of pre-paid subscription to SIRIUS® satellite radio.
