Lucid to Launch Two New Luxury Crossovers Under $50,000
Lucid is preparing to launch two new mid-size crossovers that will start under $50,000. These upcoming vehicles will bring the brand’s signature luxury, performance, and efficiency to a much wider group of buyers in the popular crossover segment.
One model will be road focused while the other will be more rugged for the adventurous set. Both will deliver the same high range, fast charging, and strong driving dynamics that define the current lineup.
We spoke to Rob Whitley, Air and Gravity Product and Pricing Manager, at the New York International Auto Show on the day the Lucid Gravity won the 2026 World Luxury Car award. He shared his excitement for the future of the brand and details about what to expect in the coming years.

Lucid Gravity Wins 2026 World Luxury Car Award
The Lucid Gravity took home the 2026 World Luxury Car title at the New York International Auto Show. A jury of 98 journalists from 33 countries chose the Lucid over a strong field of luxury cars from around the world. “We are super excited we can add it to our list,” said Whitley. This marks the second World Luxury Car win for the brand after the Lucid Air sedan won in 2023.
Whitley highlighted the brand’s impressive track record. “For Air we were at one time the most awarded new luxury vehicle on the market. And now we still are the most awarded in our segments over the past three years,” said Whitley. The team is thrilled to keep adding honors.
“It is the work of our engineering and design teams and how they were able to optimize so much to have all the superlatives that they have.” – Rob Whitley
The recognition comes from focused engineering and design work. “It makes my job easier. We have the longest range, fastest charging, and in many cases the most spacious vehicles in their segments in the entire industry,” said Whitley. Lucid is building vehicles that put it at the top of its class in every way.

Lucid Attracts Buyers from Tesla and Traditional Luxury Gas SUVs
The Lucid Air is pulling customers strongly from Tesla. “The number one trade-in for Air is Tesla Model S. That is by twice the amount of number two trade,” said Whitley. Gravity is seeing similar strong interest from other premium owners.
Buyers are moving from established luxury gas SUVs into the Lucid Gravity. “Those Mercedes GLS customers, BMW X7 customers are coming into Gravity,” said Whitley. Many of these Gravity buyers are choosing an electric vehicle for the first time.
“Gravity is actually really pulling from three-row luxury at a greater rate than we have seen there, which is exactly what we want because that is the broader market.” – Rob Whitley
This conquest shows the brand is reaching beyond early adopters into mainstream luxury buyers. Lucid is also capitalizing on recent changes by competitors and the steady, long-term growth expected in electric vehicle market share.

Outstanding Convenience and Efficiency
Whitley experienced the ownership benefits firsthand after leasing a Lucid Air. He charged exclusively at home using only a standard 120-volt outlet. “You can add 100 miles a day just on a regular 120 volt,” said Whitley. No dedicated home charger was ever needed.
“Most people don’t realize that. They think, oh, I’m going to have to spend $2,000 for a home charger. But you don’t.” – Rob Whitley
The convenience proved itself on longer drives as well. Whitley completed a trip from Tampa to Raleigh with just one charging stop. “I only had to stop once with an Air which is pretty amazing,” said Whitley. Dealing with dirty gas pumps is a thing of the past when you go electric.
The efficiency of Lucid’s lineup also delivers meaningful savings. The Lucid Air Pure is rated by the EPA as the most efficient vehicle sold today while the Lucid Gravity is the most efficient SUV. A Gravity owner can save about $10,000 in fuel and energy costs over five years versus its main gas competitor according to government data. These real-world advantages help explain why people are making the switch to electric.

Two New Midsize Crossovers Under $50,000
Lucid has shared key details on its upcoming, more affordable vehicles. “They’re midsize crossovers and we have announced that starting price will be under $50,000,” said Whitley. That lower price won’t mean compromising on luxury. “We are conscious not to go too mainstream,” said Whitley.
“We are a luxury car brand. We make the best cars, and they happen to be electric.” – Rob Whitley
Each of these two new crossovers will target different buyers. “One is a bit more on-road focused for that traditional buyer, Tesla model Y for example,” said Whitley. “And then the fourth will have a bit more of a rugged aesthetic.”
These new crossovers will build on the proven strengths of the Lucid Air and Lucid Gravity. They’ll deliver the same thoughtful engineering, everyday practicality, seamless experience, and advanced features that have already earned the current lineup multiple awards. Both models are set to be revealed later this year.
